![]() ![]() Variety of buildings and strategies makes replay value high And, play time is fairly close to an hour, depending on how much "considering" the players take. Most people 'get' the rules quickly (though seeing how the different cards work together takes time). I have played it about 6-7 times and enjoy it greatly every time I play. I played this at a friend's house and enjoyed it so much that I brought the game from Amazon using my phone during the game. For the price, you really can't go wrong for a game with this much meat on it. Obviously it's not so easy you always get everything. There is so much player agency built into this game that you shouldn't have a hard time getting what you want MOST of the time. Each building has an upgrade side as well which offers a great decision of, "Do I upgrade what I already have? But look at all those cool buildings out there that I don't have yet!" If dice scare you off as being too random, don't worry. ![]() On a players turn, the will gain dice, spend dice, and (possibly) store dice. To help build the card pool, there is a setup app which randomizes things nicely. The game comes with multiple decks of cards which aren't used in every game so there is plenty of replayability here. Each player builds up their own colony of buildings that allow them to race to be the first to a certain amount of points. There are also helpful variants of which types of cards to use if you want to play various levels of aggressive games.ĭo you like strategy games? Do you like engine builders? What about dice games where you get to manipulate and mitigate the faces? Colony has all of this and more. The instructions are very clear, and in my opinion, well written, the explanations of what cards do and how to do them is explained as well in the rule book and on each card. It has a steep learning curve, but playing with someone who has played it before, or watching one of those gaming channel do an explanation and/or run through, you will be familiar after the first game played. It's also one of those games where, during turn orders, you may not get to chose first, second, third, and you get that tension in a game where you hope the opposing player doesn't take the resource you have been waiting for three turns for! This allows the players multiple types of games, that start with the basic rules, but have a different style of game play. Great game, if you like to roll dice, this is a fun way to do it.Īlso with the amount of sets of cards you have, you can play with different cards that do different results, each game. ![]()
